Hermetically Sealed Transformers, also known as Corrugated Transformers, function similarly to conventional transformers but differ in construction. The primary tank is built with corrugated fins and MS steel, providing an extended cooling surface to prevent overheating during operation. The integration of these corrugated fins increases the surface area, aiding in heat dissipation. Once welded, these fins become an integral part of the transformer’s tank structure, ensuring mechanical strength and durability.
Highly skilled and experienced welders manufacture these transformers, ensuring a completely leakage-free tank. The reliability of the tank design is verified through rigorous overpressure tests, guaranteeing structural integrity.
Unlike conventional transformers, Hermetically Sealed Transformers do not have conservators or silica gel breathers. Instead, the dielectric insulating fluid or oil is entirely sealed within the transformer tank, preventing contact with atmospheric air. This design prevents oxidation and sludge formation, significantly enhancing the longevity of the insulation oil. Since the insulating oil remains isolated, degradation is minimized, making these transformers virtually maintenance-free.
No need for regular oil filtration or dehydrating breathers as the sealed design prevents contamination.
The absence of air exposure significantly slows down the aging process of the insulating oil, leading to a longer service life.
Hermetically sealed transformers are less susceptible to failures caused by moisture ingress or oil contamination.
Due to the design, they can be smaller than conventional transformers with similar power ratings.
The sealed design protects the internal components from dust and other pollutants.
